The Republic-Times Athlete of the Week is baseball standout Grant Huebner of the St. Louis Spikes in the Mon-Clair League. Huebner, who starred at Edwardsville High School and then St. Charles Community College and will attend Georgia Gwinnett College this fall, was selected as MVP for the Mon-Clair All-Stars on July 24 after going 4-for-5 with two triples and the game-tying RBI. For the regular season, Huebner led the Mon-Clair League in hitting at .483, led in RBIs with 23, and was one homer shy of the league’s triple crown with five home runs. He also led the league with 35 runs scored and set a new Mon-Clair League single-season record for stolen bases with 43.
