Golfers compete in Optimist qualifier

The Optimist International Junior Golf Championship Midwest Qualifier took place last month at Red Tail Golf Club in Decatur, with several locals participating. 

Columbia High School student Jacob Hall placed first overall in the Boys 16-18 division with a two-round score of 147. Hall qualified for the national tourney taking place in July.

Waterloo’s Tyler Armbrecht finished in a three-way tie for fourth place with a score of 153.

The Waterloo Optimist Club sponsored four locals for this tournament, those being Gibault’s Layne Wilkens and Max Keeven and Waterloo’s Armbrecht and Brady Schmidt.  

Wilkens placed 13th in the tourney with a 161. Keeven placed 27th with a score of 181.

Schmidt placed 19th with a score of 167.

Other locals playing in this tournament were Gibault’s Cohen Jackson (tied for 13th at 161), Columbia’s Kyle Chudd (15th place at 163), and Gibault’s Tim Donius (29th place at 194). 

In the girls tournament, the Waterloo Optimists sponsored Gibault golfers Annika Fabie and Elena Oggero. 

Fabie placed 16th with a score of 195. Oggero placed 17th with a score of 202.
