Glenda F. Rippelmeyer | Obituary
Glenda F. Rippelmeyer, nee Jones, 80, of Waterloo, died Jan. 16, 2015, in Waterloo.
Glenda was born on Aug. 21, 1934, the only child of the late William G. Jones and Lona (Walker) Childs, nee Patton.
Glenda was a cheerleader at Southeast Missouri State University, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., when she met her future husband, Ray (Bud) Rippelmeyer who was playing basketball for the Indians.
They were married on Sept. 25, 1954, and were blessed with four children, Tara (Robert) Schulmeister, Tamara (Alan) Pieper, Lorri Rippelmeyer (Allen Mitchell) and Brad (Sandra) Rippelmeyer. Glenda was Bud’s biggest “cheerleader,” following him from coast to coast and supporting him while he pursued a professional baseball career.
She was a teacher at Cedar Bluff School in Fults and in Valmeyer Community School District in Valmeyer. She was a great cook and had a flair for decorating and entertaining. Glenda was active in her church, St. John U.C.C. in Valmeyer, and in the Valmeyer community where she lived with her husband on their family farm until the flood in 1993.
She relished time with her family and especially her six granddaughters, Erin (Steve) Hoffmann, Lauren (Colby) Jensen, Claire Pieper, Regan, Jordan and Ashton Rippelmeyer.
As Alzheimer’s disease diminished her memory, her husband, Bud, switched roles and became her biggest “cheerleader” and supporter. He remained by her side daily at Oak Hill Nursing Home until her death.
Besides her husband, children, and grandchildren, Glenda is survived by her great-grandchildren, Adler and Ryan Hoffmann, her brothers and sisters in law, Robert and Doris Rippelmeyer and Margaret and Herman Louer, along with nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Jan. 23 at Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo.
The funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Jan. 24 at St. John U.C.C. in Valmeyer.
Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery in Valmeyer.
Her family wishes memorials in Glenda’s honor be donated to the Carpet Fund at St. John United Church of Christ in Valmeyer or to Oak Hill Nursing Home in Waterloo.
