Gibault grad dies in Indiana crash

Brian Pinion

A Gibault Catholic High School graduate died from injuries sustained in an early August crash in Kokomo, Ind.

Police said that shortly before 7:20 a.m. Aug. 9, a 24-year-old Kokoma man was driving a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country van through an intersection and pulled out in front of a motorcycle driven by 47-year-old Brian Pinion, resulting in a collision.

Pinion, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from his motorcycle and suffered life-threatening injuries in the collision.

He was airlifted by helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital, where he later died.

Upon his graduation from Gibault, Pinion worked 30 years at Chrysler and was heavily involved in the United Auto Workers, according to his obituary.

“He absolutely loved riding motorcycles, the feeling of freedom on the open road mirroring the liberty with which he lived every aspect of his life,” his obituary states.

He leaves behind two children, Waterloo residents Aiden and Alexis Pinion. They have created a GoFundMe to assist with their father’s memorial costs, cremation costs, bills, taking care of his dog, and gas money for trips back and forth as they pack up his belongings.
