The Republic-Times Athlete of the Week is Gibault Catholic High School basketball player Gavin Kesler. The senior leads the Hawks this season in scoring and rebounding at 15.8 points and seven rebounds per game. Kesler is shooting 80 percent from the free throw line. Kesler posted consecutive double-doubles this past weekend in wins over Steeleville (20 points, 10 rebounds) and Civic Memorial (13 points, 12 rebounds). He reached 1,000 career points scored during the recent Columbia-Freeburg Holiday Tournament.
