Second only to the annual demolition derby, the Figure 8 Race is an event that draws quite a crowd to the Monroe County Fair.

Such was the case again Wednesday night, as cars both large and small sped and slid through the mud in the main arena for a shot at glory.

A total of 52 cars competed in the small car division, which was broken down into six heats and then two consolation heats before a 16-car final ended the night.

In the end, there were familiar faces taking the top two spots. The orange No. 55b car of Tony Brellinger placed first ahead of the No. 11x PT Cruiser driven by Jeremy Robert.

In the large car division, the drivers decided to break it down into two classes this year: front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive. With only one first place trophy for the division, the drivers decided the front-wheel drive winner would get the trophy and both first place winners would split the prize money.

In the large car front-wheel drive race, the silver No. 25 car of Austin Kern won the 15-lap race ahead of six other entries.

In the large car rear-wheel drive race, the black No. 45 car of Mike Seymour won ahead of six other entries. A particularly scary moment in this race was when the tan No. 15 Oldsmobile Delta 88 of Brad Kern burst into flames. Thankfully, the driver escaped without injury.
