Fatal motorcycle crash near Millstadt

A motorcycle crash near Millstadt claimed the life of a 24-year-old man on Thursday morning.

Illinois State Police said that shortly after 7 a.m., a motorcycle driven by Bryan Hern, 24, of Millstadt, was traveling east on Route 158 between Millstadt and Columbia in St. Clair County when for unknown reasons the motorcycle failed to negotiate a turn in the highway at Freeburg-Douglas Road. The motorcycle ran off the roadway and hit a stop sign, ejecting Hern into a field.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene by an official from the St. Clair County Coroner’s Office.

Police are still investigating a cause of the crash.

Hern worked as a maintenance mechanic for Gateway Cold Storage in Valmeyer.
