A fatal rollover crash occurred sometime after 3 a.m. Monday on Interstate 255 southbound under the Route 3 overpass in Dupo.

Pronounced dead at the scene was Cornelius Johnson, 66, of St. Louis, according to the St. Clair County coroner’s office. He suffered head and chest trauma as a result of the crash. Initial reports indicate that Johnson’s vehicle lost control for unknown reasons and struck an overpass bridge, catching on fire.

Illinois State Police handled the crash.
