Eugene C. Gilbreth | Obituary

Eugene C. Gilbreth, 98, of Columbia, died Sept. 5, 2024, at Bria of Columbia. He was born Nov. 23, 1925, in Columbia, son of the late William R., and Elizabeth (nee Brand) Gilbreth. He was married to the late Patricia (nee Burneson) Gilbreth. They were married May 21, 1949, in Columbia. She had passed away Dec. 4, 2021.

Gene was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Columbia, Knights of Columbus Council 6165, Boy Scouts of America, had taught welding at Ranken Technical College and loved gardening and being outdoors. 

Gene had served in the U.S. Air Force as well as the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He had retired as a Superintendent from Crane Co., St. Louis,.

Surviving are his sons, Timothy (Mary) Gilbreth of Godfrey, Dennis (Lisa) Gilbreth of Columbia, Jerome (Renee) Gilbreth of Columbia and Christopher (Rebecca) Gilbreth of Columbia; daughter Susan Hayden of Columbia; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; along with other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by a son, John S. Gilbreth; sister Helen T. Engel; and brothers Walter Gilbreth and Joseph Gilbeth.

Visitation is 9:30-11:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Columbia, with Fr. Steve Thoma, C.R., officiating. 

Private family interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Columbia.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to: Immaculate Conception Catholic Education & Activities Center – Building Fund, Columbia.
