Eagles heating up the ice

In recent Mississippi Valley Club Hockey Association action, Columbia won two and Freeburg-Waterloo dropped two contests.

Columbia (10-5-3) picked up a 5-1 victory over Granite City last Tuesday, with goalie Dalton Fitzgerald making 29 saves. 

Jack Reuss netted a hat trick and also dished out two assists. Anderson Judy scored the other two goals for the Eagles and also had an assist. Rece Sanderson recorded four assists.

On Thursday, Columbia won 4-2 over Alton on senior night at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex in O’Fallon. Mason Niedbalski had two goals and an assist to lead the Eagles. 

Reuss leads Columbia this season with 30 goals and 12 assists, which is good for third in scoring in the MVCHA.

Columbia played a Tuesday night tilt against Belleville, falling 4-3.

Columbia battles unbeaten Edwardsville at RP Lumber Center in Edwardsville on Thursday and then Collinsville this coming Tuesday in O’Fallon. 

Freeburg-Waterloo (12-7) dropped a 6-2 contest last Tuesday to Belleville, with goalie Logan Sherman making 27 saves. 

On Monday, the Raging Bulldogs lost 5-1 to O’Fallon. Austin Hopfinger netted the only goal for Freeburg-Waterloo, with Sherman making 24 saves in net. 

Conner Blair leads Freeburg-Waterloo in scoring this season with 18 goals and 12 assists, which ranks ninth in the MVCHA. 

The Raging Bulldogs played East Alton-Wood River on Tuesday night, winning 7-2 behind a hat trick from Cohin Reynolds.

Freeburg-Waterloo faces Triad this coming Tuesday in O’Fallon before another match with East Alton-Wood River next Thursday in Granite City.
