‘Dogs, Eagles keep battling

Both local Mississippi Valley Club Hockey Association squads are performing well entering the holidays, as the focus shifts to the second half of the season.

The Freeburg-Waterloo Raging Bulldogs (10-4)  split two recent contests and sit atop the MVCHA Varsity 1A standings. 

On Thursday, the Raging Bulldogs dropped a 10-2 game against undefeated Edwardsville. Conner Blair and Caiden Anderson netted the goals for Freeburg-Waterloo. 

Blair leads the Raging Bulldogs in scoring this season with 16 goals and 11 assists.

On Monday, Freeburg-Waterloo posted a 9-3 victory over Bethalto. Layne Wilkens, Kole Schilling and Cohin Reynolds each scored twice. Logan Sherman made 37 saves in net.

The next match for Freeburg-Waterloo is Dec. 28 against Triad at RP Lumber Center in Edwardsville.

The Columbia Eagles (7-3-2) sit in the middle of the pack of the MVCHA Varsity 2A standings. 

Columbia posted a 7-2 win last Tuesday over Highland, as seven different players notched a goal. Anderson Judy had two assists for the Eagles. 

Up next for Columbia is a Thursday match against Collinsville in Edwardsville, followed by a Tuesday game against Edwardsville at McKendree Metro Rec Plex in O’Fallon. 

Jack Reuss leads the Eagles in scoring this season with 24 goals and five assists.
