Gibault’s Wes Degener and Matt Schreder are this week’s Republic-Times Athletes of the Week.

The Hawks (12-2) basketball players each earned themselves Freeburg/Columbia Holiday Tournament All-Tournament team honors and helped lead their team to a second place tourney finish over Alton-Marquette (10-2).

Hawks senior forward, Matt Schreder, totaled 46 points, 14 rebounds and four steals during the tournament. Gibault junior forward, Wes Degener, totaled 64 points, 17 rebounds and two steals during the tournament.

The two helped lead the Hawks to a No. 3 ranking in the state in Class 1A, as of the Dec. 20 Massey Rankings and USA Today’s Super 25. The team is also ranked number one in the Republic-Times Local Rankings.
