The Columbia Police Department is investigating a death after receiving a call to check the welfare of a resident at a mobile home in the 500 block of South Main Street.

A 59-year-old man was found deceased on a couch in the living room by a Columbia police officer at about 2:10 p.m.

The Monroe County Coroner and an Illinois State Police Crime Scene unit were called to assist the investigation. No indication of foul play was discovered at the residence.

The name of the 59-year-old man is not being released until family is notified.

“We just want to make sure there is no foul play involved,” Columbia Police Chief Jerry Paul said.
