Columbia police and fire, along with Monroe County EMS, responded Sunday at about 11:25 a.m. to a crash on northbound Route 3 at South Main Street involving a car and semi-truck.

Witnesses at the scene reported the car stopped at a red light and was rear-ended by a semi-truck. The driver of a Lincoln Town Car, Betty Ramer, 83, of Waterloo, was transported by ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis County. The driver of the semi, a 2011 Freightliner, was Bill Jaeyung Park, 57, of California. He was not injured. Park was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Northbound traffic on Route 3 was diverted onto Main Street while emergency responders worked the crash scene.

While responding to this crash, a Columbia police officer’s car collided with another vehicle elsewhere in town. No injuries were reported by the officer or other party involved, but the police car was towed as a result of the crash. Illinois State Police handled that accident.
