Columbia wins Monroe County Softball Tournament
The Columbia High School softball team continued its recent stretch of solid all-around play by winning the Monroe County Softball Tournament in Waterloo on Thursday.
The Eagles improved to 15-3 on the season with victories over Valmeyer and Waterloo to claim this year’s tourney crown.
Lindsay Wibbenmeyer went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored and Britney Edwards added two hits and three RBIs in the 13-1 opening game win over Valmeyer. Mikaela Kossina allowed just three Valmeyer hits over six innings for the pitching victory.
Waterloo wasted no time in its 19-0 blasting of cross-town rival Gibault, scoring 10 runs in the third inning to bust the game wide open. The Hawks could muster only two hits in the contest.
The Bulldogs and Eagles locked horns in the final, with Columbia emerging victorious, 6-3. The Eagles plated four runs in the first inning to provide early breathing room for pitcher Brina Rujawitz.

Columbia will play a Saturday doubleheader at Collinsville. Waterloo plays at Althoff on Saturday.
