The Columbia Middle School 2016 eighth grade girls basketball team.

The Republic-Times Team of the Week is the Columbia Middle School girls basketball team.

The eighth grade Eagles concluded their season with a record of 18-3 by claiming the Cahokia Conference championship Dec. 9 over Marissa. In the conference tournament, Columbia beat New Athens and Freeburg to advance to the championship game.

Four girls (Alison Carr, Ava Khoury, Kelsie Ohlendorf and Olivia Peterson) scored 100 points or more on the season, and Peterson set a school record with 247 rebounds. Andrea is a graduate of Gibault High School and the University of Missouri School of Journalism, the University of Missouri Harry S Truman School of Public Affairs and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville College of Education. She lives in Columbia with her husband and their twin toddler sons.
