Charles Emmett Cook | Obituary

Lt. Col. (retired) Charles Emmett Cook of Red Bud, 88, died Dec. 10, 2014.

He was born Aug. 23, 1926 in East St. Louis, son of the late Granvel Cleo Cook and Lorene Mildred Finley Cook.

He attended public schools at Rock Junior High and East St. Louis High School, graduating in June 1944.

He was drafted into the United States Army shortly thereafter and completed basic training, parachute training and demolition training prior to shipping overseas to the Philippines.

He married Miriam Beatrice Duke of Durham, NC. on Oct.  1, 1949. Miriam went to her Lord on Sept. 1, 1990 and he again married a wonderful woman and teenage acquaintance, Geraldine Latta Weber of Red Bud.

He was preceded in death by former wife, Miriam, siblings Granvel Jr., Catherine and Bobby Cook.

Charles is survived by his wife Geraldine, his son, Charles Jr., daughters Shelly, Robin and Aimee Ann, and sisters Shirley Morrison, Karen Penn and Sharon Reiss.

Charles took the words “God and Country” to heart since he had accepted Jesus Christ as Our Lord and Savior and tried his best to live a life of honor and integrity while proudly serving in the military that he loved so well.

Charles’ decorations include: The Bronze Star (twice), Asiatic-Pacific campaign Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Korea), World War II Victory Medal and various Airborne and Special Forces Badges.

Visitation took place Dec. 16 at Braun Family Funeral Home in Columbia.

A funeral service took place Dec. 16 at the funeral home.

Interment took place at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.
