Columbia Fire Department personnel responded shortly after noon Sunday to a yard fire that caught the back side of an attached garage on fire at 837 Eckert Lane. The homeowner was burning sticks and yard waste outside and left the fire unattended briefly before returning to find that an ember strayed and ignited on wooden siding. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the small fire and prevent major damage from occurring.
