CFD called to report of subject swimming in river

Update: The fire department was called off after it was determined to be debris floating in the river and not a person.

The Columbia Fire Department responded to the report of what was believed to be a person swimming upstream in the Mississippi River in the area between Levee and Taake roads. The person who spotted the subject and called the incident in to emergency dispatch was on the Missouri side of the river. The call for service went out around 1:20 p.m. Saturday. The CFD has a rescue boat it can deploy on the river for rescue situations.
