Waterloo Police Chief Jim Trantham is advising local residents to be diligent about locking their vehicles at all times because there have been a series of vehicle burglaries around town, occurring in the late night and early morning hours.

The vehicles that have been targeted this time around were left unlocked and items taken included cash, change, gift cards and small valuables, police said.

The Waterloo Police Department on Thursday morning released surveillance photos of two young men wanted for questioning in connection with a vehicle break-in that occurred in town about 1:15 a.m. Saturday. Anyone with information is asked to call 618-939-8651.

WPD Detective Jeff Prosise said that as of Thursday, police have received nine theft reports from the following Waterloo streets: Flower Street, Morrison Avenue, Sycamore Drive, South Market Street, East Third Street, Paul Drive, Becky Drive and Glendell Lane.

Residents are again reminded to lock their vehicles and report any suspicious activity to the police, Trantham said.

Monroe County Sheriff Neal Rohlfing said his department is also investigating a similar recent car break-in that was reported in the county.
