Bulldogs pull off huge win at Triad

The Waterloo football team remained perfect on Saturdays, winning 21-14 at Triad.

The Knights entered the game undefeated and ranked seventh in the state for Class 5A. But the Bulldogs spoiled Triad’s party, moving to 3-0 in games played following Friday weather postponements.

Waterloo wide receiver Kyle Knefelkamp, who scored two touchdowns in last week’s win at home over Carbondale, had another big game on Saturday. He returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for the score to put the ‘Dogs up 7-0.

Triad answered with a TD following a short offensive drive, and the score was tied 7-7.

The Bulldogs put together a long drive on offense in the second quarter that was capped off by a six-yard TD run by Dalton Viglasky. The ‘Dogs led 14-7 at halftime.

Knefelkamp struck again in the second half, pulling in a 78-yard TD reception from quarterback Ross Schrader to put Waterloo up 21-7 at 4:34 of the third quarter.

He added an interception to his night in the fourth quarter, plus a clutch 18-yard reception late in the game that clinched the win.

Triad scored a late TD, but it was not enough as the Bulldogs came away with the win.
