The Maeystown, Prairie du Rocher and Waterloo fire departments responded about 6:45 p.m. Thursday to battle a large brush fire at the intersection of Brandt and Sutterville roads in rural Fults.

The fire was caused by a downed power line that arced and caught nearby vegetation on fire. The power line fell due to the strong wind conditions.

“We were there probably about an hour, and all three departments attacked the fire and we got it out,” Maeystown Fire Chief Lynden Prange said.
