Brian G. Baker | Obituary

Brian G. Baker, 62, of Columbia, died July 26, 2014 in St. Louis.

He was born July 18, 1952, in Geneva, son of the late Robert M. and Irene E. (Kjell) Baker.

He married JoAnn (Gregson) Baker on Dec. 29, 1990, in Hecker.

Brian was a physical therapist at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. He was an active member of Hope Christian Church in Columbia, where he was an elder and a Bible study leader. He volunteered with Good Samaritan Ministries in Washington Park, joining his wife as she ministered to local youth. As a young man, Brian enjoyed swimming, marathon running, playing the guitar, and walking on his hands. As of late, he took pleasure in walks with JoAnn and embraced the challenges of golf. Brian embodied joie de vivre; loved movies, athletics, and music; and was naturally gifted with children and the elderly. He had a curiosity for science and world-view studies from a biblical perspective; and was always quick to offer a positive spin on events and crack a witty joke.

Surviving are his wife JoAnn; his daughter Wendi L. (Jerrod) Brownson of Alma, Mich.; son Warren L. Baker of Houston, Texas; grandchildren Thaddeus and Naomi Brownson; brother, Craig (Kristine) Baker of Baton Rouge, La.; sister Carol (Karl) Merbach of Rapid City, S.D.; brother, Gary (Rhonda) Baker of North Aurora and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Brian was preceded in death by both parents; his father-in-law Virgil Gregson; and his brother Ronald Baker.

Memorial services will take place at 3 p.m. Aug. 17 at Hope Christian Church in Columbia.

Memorial contributions can be offered to Hope Christian Church – Missions Fund.
