The Republic-Times Athlete of the Week is Valmeyer High School senior Avery Smith. Wrestling for Red Bud High School, Smith competed Friday at the IHSA Girls Wrestling State Meet in Bloomington. Wrestling in the 125-pound division, Smith went 1-2 at state to finish her season at 20-12 overall. This was her third time qualifying for state.
