Attempted residential burglary in Columbia

Three people are in custody in Columbia following an attempted residential burglary at 877 Meadowview Lane at about 4 p.m. Wednesday. Multiple calls came in to 911, including one from a resident of the home, saying a break-in was in progress. Police responded and arrested two people on the scene at gunpoint and another driving a gray Mazda with Missouri plates (pictured) after a brief, three-block chase.
Columbia police officers and Illinois State Police crime scene investigators were called to the scene and canvassed the area. They were also seen sifting through possible evidence in the vehicle driven by suspects.
Yesterday, Columbia Police Chief Joe Edwards distributed a press release advising his department is investigating two residential burglaries that occurred earlier this month, one on Brellinger and another on Brookfield. It has not been confirmed if these break-ins are related to today’s incident.
The names of those arrested are mentioned in this updated article posted on Thursday: http://www.republictimes.net/cpd-three-arrested-in-wednesday-burglary-attempt/
