Area police chase ends with crash in Columbia

Two suspects wanted for an armed robbery in Cahokia led police on a high-speed chase around 8 p.m. Monday that went south on Interstate 255 and across the Jefferson Barracks Bridge into Missouri, then back into Illinois before eventually crashing on Route 3 near Route 158 in Columbia.

The suspects were taken into custody following the crash and turned over to Cahokia police. Their names have not yet been released.

Multiple police agencies were involved in the apprehension of the suspects, including Cahokia, Dupo, Columbia, Waterloo and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.

Columbia Police Chief Joe Edwards said an officer from his department deployed “stop sticks” on the roadway and successfully deflated the driver’s side tires.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
