Alan J. Volkert | Obit

Alan Joseph Volkert, 61, born on April 27, 1962, in Columbia, died March 28, 2024, in Hopkins, Minn. Alan’s life was marked by his humorous spirit, successful career, and deep pride in his family and accomplishments.

Graduating from Illinois State University, Alan embarked on a diverse and impactful career. He dedicated his expertise to multiple prestigious organizations including the Department of Economic Development in Missouri, the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, Anheuser-Busch, Morgan Stanley in Arlington Hill, N.J., Caterpillar in Peoria, the Department of Defense/NASA in Huntsville, Ala., GE in Eden Prairie, Minn.m and finally, Wells Fargo in Minneapolis where he served as vice president.

Alan proudly served in the Army from October 1983 to July 1987, a period during which he committed himself to the values of duty and service.

Beyond his professional life, Alan cherished the outdoors. He spent many joyful times camping, canoeing, and fishing, sharing these passions with friends and family. 

He is survived by a loving family that includes his sons Timothy and William Volkert; daughter Paige Volkert; grandchildren Carlos and Audrey Volkert; mother Grace Volkert; and brothers Bruce and Craig Volkert. 

Alan was preceded in death by his father Horace Volkert and sister Amy Merhmann.

A service to honor Alan’s life will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 13, at the Columbia American Legion, where friends and family will gather to remember a life beautifully lived.
