Arrests made in drug raid

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, with help from other law enforcement personnel, executed a warrant south of Waterloo and took multiple people into custody on drug charges Friday morning.

Monroe County Sheriff Neal Rohlfing said a drug search warrant was executed at 5726 State Route 3, with five subjects taken into custody.

A large police presence, including SWAT and tactical personnel, was seen departing from the sheriff’s department in Waterloo shortly after 8 a.m. Rohlfing confirmed this was related to the incident.

The sheriff’s department said Saturday that the Metropolitan Enforcement Group of Southern Illinois and Metro East SWAT, assisted by Belleville/St. Clair Regional SRT, joined them in conducting a court-issued search warrant for distribution of methamphetamine. Also during the search warrant, investigators with the Metro East Auto Theft Task Force responded to check several vehicles on the property.

“This residence has been under investigation for some time by MEGSI and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department,” MCSD Capt. Justin Biggs said. “The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department has an investigator assigned to MEGSI who handles and assists in narcotic investigations.”

Charged in the incident were Brittney M. Pegg, 25, and Michael L. Pegg, 51, both of Waterloo, and Travis G. Dietz, 24, Brandon J. Boyer, 27, both of Red Bud. A fifth person apprehended was later released without being charged.

Brittney Pegg is charged with possession of meth with intent to deliver. Her bond was set at $75,000.

Michael Pegg was charged with possession of meth and five counts of possession of unassigned vehicle title. His bond was set at $40,000.

Dietz was charged with possession of meth. His bond was set at $20,000.

Boyer was also charged with possession of meth. His bond was set at $20,000.

All remain in custody at the Monroe County Jail.

“Sheriff Rohlfing strongly encourages citizens to contact us about drug houses or suspicious activities,” Biggs said. “Your calls can be made anonymously to our Crime Free Tip Line (618-939-8477).”

The MCSD also issued an apology to neighbors or all those driving on Route 3 near the raid on Friday morning for any inconveniences.

“Deputies had shut down Route 3 for a short period of time for the safety of the officers, deputies, investigators, as well as you, the citizens,” Biggs said. “Once we were given the ‘all clear’ and everyone was safe, we reopened the roadway.”
