The Ss. Peter and Paul Falcons have been putting on a show for their fans all season. This past weekend was no different.

The eighth grade boys basketball team had a whirlwind weekend of hoops, hopping from one tourney to the next, winning in thrilling, overtime fashion and completing their season without a loss.

No. 1 seeded SPPCS played in the Cahokia Conference Tournament championships Friday, competing in a close back-and-forth game against Millstadt, who forced the game into overtime. But the Falcons would come through, taking home the conference crown, 55-48.

Immediately after the conference title game, SPPCS traveled to Olney for the Diocese of Belleville’s Conference Tournament. The No. 2 seeded Falcons blew past Our Lady of Mt. Carmel from Herrin and All Saints Academy from Breese on Saturday to advance to the tournament’s title game on Sunday. The tourney’s top two seeds battled it out in the championship with the Falcons only up by one point with under two minutes to play in the game. SPPCS would pull through for its second tournament championship in one weekend, 45-41.

The team also won the SPPCS Holiday Tournament just a few weeks back.

The Falcons end their season with an impressive 28-0 record.

According to the school, the team is not eligible to enter the SIJHSAA state tournament due to the number of games they play in a season.

In other eighth grade boys basketball news…

The Waterloo Junior High eighth grade boys basketball team also competed in the Cahokia Conference tournament. WJHS played for the tournament’s third place against Freeburg, winning 51-42.

Waterloo also turned around and played in a tournament the following day on Saturday, falling to both O’Fallon Fulton, 38- 30, and Edwardsville Lincoln, 53-40.

The Bulldogs are currently 12-9.

WJHS will play in the Collinsville Regional Jan. 29 and 30.
