Columbia man arrested in sword incident

A 33-year-old Columbia man has been charged with multiple felonies following an incident involving a samurai sword in his apartment on Thursday night.

Police were called to an apartment at 210 E. Mulberry Street in Columbia shortly after 7 p.m. in response to a domestic incident.

Court information alleges that Christopher R. Elder, 33, of Columbia, displayed and attempted to attack his girlfriend with the sword in the apartment. This allegedly was done in the presence of two children, police said.

The sword never made contact with anyone during the incident, and no injuries were reported.

Elder was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and two counts of endangering the health of a child.
