Softball teams keep battling

The high school softball season keeps rolling along with Columbia and Dupo racking up wins and Waterloo competing well in a tough conference.

Columbia pitcher Kaelyn Rheinecker threw a seven-inning perfect game in last Tuesday’s 17-0 win at Wesclin. 

The Eagles (13-5) scored 10 runs in the top of the seventh to pull away. 

Rheinecker had 12 strikeouts in the contest, with Lexi Touchette going 6-for-6 and Mikaela Kossina going 4-for-6 at the plate and contributing five RBIs each at the plate.

Last Wednesday, Columbia smacked five home runs in a 17-5 win over Red Bud. Ava Khoury went 3-for-3 with two round-trippers and five RBIs. Jordyn Cygan, Rheinecker and Touchette also homered for the Eagles.

Columbia played at Freeburg on Tuesday and travel to Edwardsville on Wednesday.

Rheinecker, a senior, has 106 strikeouts in 67 innings pitched this season with a 1.67 ERA. She’s also hitting .406.

Touchette leads the Eagles in hitting at .492 with four home runs, 22 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Kossina is hitting .438 with 17 RBIs and 17 runs and is 5-1 with a 2.24 ERA in the pitching circle

Khoury is hitting .382  with a team-high seven home runs and 24 RBIs.

Dupo (11-5) won 18-3 over Wesclin last Wednesday. Reagan Carner continued her solid spring by going 3-for-3 with a home run and six RBIs and also picking up the pitching win. 

Holly Wilson went 4-for-4 for the Tigers.

On Monday, the Tigers won 14-4 over Lebanon. MyKenzie Kloess went 3-for-4 with five RBIs and Cameron Foster went 3-for-5 with three RBIs.

Dupo hosted Steeleville on Tuesday and will travel to Red Bud on Thursday.

Kloess is hitting .547 to lead the Tigers with 24 RBIs and 18 runs. 

Carner is hitting .537 with six home runs, 24 RBIs and 30 runs to go along with a 6-2 record and 2.78 ERA as a pitcher.

Foster is hitting .491 with eight stolen bases and 18 runs scored.

Waterloo (10-9) posted an 11-1 victory over Okawville at home last Tuesday. Brooke Mason went 3-for-3 and Taylor Downen, Abbey Goff, Mikayla Haloftis and Izzy Wahn all had two hits each in the win.

Skyler Barker allowed just two hits in the pitching circle for the ‘Dogs. 

Last Wednesday, Waterloo dropped a 9-5 contest to Jerseyville. Goff went 3-for-3 with a home run for the Bulldogs. 

On Monday, Waterloo lost 12-5 to Civic Memorial. The Bulldogs plated five runs in the top of the first but were blanked the rest of the way.

The Bulldogs play at Mascoutah on Wednesday before hosting Highland on Monday. 

Wahn leads Waterloo in hitting at .540 to go along with 16 RBIs and 15 runs.

Goff is hitting .508 with two home runs, 22 RBIs and 20 runs.

Downen is hitting .446 with 23 RBIs this spring.

Valmeyer (2-10) snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 9-6 victory over Althoff on Monday. 

Lilly Schlemmer went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, with Tinleigh Jakimauskas and Guin Kohnz added two hits each for the Pirates. 

Stephanie Meister picked up the win in the pitching circle, going three innings.

Valmeyer played at Red Bud on Tuesday.

Last Tuesday, Valmeyer lost 5-1 to New Athens. Chelsea Hooker collected two triples for the Pirates.

Hooker, a senior, is hitting .379 with 10 runs scored this season.

Leading the team in hitting is Jakimauskas at .394 with seven RBIs.
