Norma L. Wheatley

Norma L. Wheatley (nee Gegel), 77, of Waterloo, died June 28, 2018, in Waterloo.

She was born Oct. 18, 1940, in Baldwin.

Norma worked in the banking business for 20 years, becoming a teller services officer at Jasper County Bank in Newton, Iowa.

She was previously a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Newton, Iowa; taught Bible school and Sunday school for youth; and was a member of Ladys group. She was also a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, West Des Moines, Iowa; Grace Lutheran, Holiday Island, Ark.; and, recently, Immanuel Lutheran, Waterloo.

She was an active maker of quilts and afghans over the years.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Wheatley; children Craig (Nancy) Wheatley and Todd (Elizabeth) Wheatley; step-grandsons Marcus and Juan; brother Kenneth Gegel; and a sister-in-law, aunt, uncle, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents Otto and Anna Gegel (nee Guebert).

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. July 2, at Quernheim Funeral Home, and 9-10 a.m. July 3, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waterloo.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. July 3, at the church,  Pastor Tony Troup officiating.

Graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Baldwin.

As an expression of sympathy the family prefers memorial contributions to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waterloo; or Cancer Center at Missouri Baptist Hospital Medical Center.
