James W. Fischer | Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of musician James W. Fischer, formerly of Waterloo, who passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018, in Henderson, Nev., at the age of 86.

He was born Feb. 18, 1932, in East St. Louis, the second son of Henry R. Fischer, Sr. and Eleanora E. (Killy) Fischer.

Jim Fischer was a very talented musician and an early member of the Waterloo German Band. Residents of this area may recall when Jim played music locally at the Waterloo Country Club. He was a legendary saxophonist and clarinetist, playing with several bands in Illinois, Missouri and elsewhere in the country.

In his teen years, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. James Fischer was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Army band. He was a skilled mechanic and his hobbies included working on cars, motors, and engines.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his two brothers, H. Rudy Fischer and Louis H. Fischer.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian Fischer; his former wife Joan L. (Schrader) Collier; daughter Loren K. Fischer; son Scott J. Fischer; sister Marilyn L. Fischer; and grandchildren Lindsey and Kyle.
