Richard O. Steingrubey

Richard O. Steingrubey, 86, of Red Bud, died at 8:28 a.m., June 9, 2018, at St. Anthony’s Medical Center, St. Louis.  

He was born Sept. 29, 1931, in St. Louis, son of the late Harry F. and Thelma Steingrubey (nee Hall).

Richard married Dorothy Goessling on May 24, 1952, at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Waterloo; she survives.

He owned and operated Red Bud Auto Supply and Town & Country Auto Supply in Waterloo until his retirement.

Richard was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Red Bud, where he sang in the Adult Choir. He was also a member of Knight of Columbus 12152 in Red Bud.

Richard served in the Korean War and was a member of VFW Post 6504 in Waterloo, as well as the Kaskaskia Trail Chorus. 

Richard enjoyed spending time restoring Model Ts and was in the Model T Club.  

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Steingrubey of Red Bud; children Rick Steingrubey of Waterloo, Debbie (Jim) Moses of Amory, Miss., Brenda Spradling of Columbia; son-in-law Jerry Geolat of Waterloo; daughter-in-law Sandy Smith of Waterloo; sisters Bonnie Berry of Godfrey, Patricia (Gaillard) Krewer of Blue Grass, Iowa, Dorothy Matzenbacher of Fults, and Peggy (Ralph) Ruhman of Edwardsville; brothers Harry B. (Maxine) Steingrubey of Maeystown, and Francis (Adele) Steingrubey of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.; grandchildren Kim (Brian) Stelzer, Annette Woldanski, Jacob (Kate) Steingrubey, Beth Geolat, Heather (Mike) Pochek, Kelly Steingrubey, Chad (Rachel) Steingrubey, Sarah Spradling, Josh Spradling, Vince Spradling, and Justin Spradling; great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Tyler, Audrey, Kira, Blake, Max, Ethan, Tristan, Ava, Olivia, Savannah, Taylor, Sawyer and Dawsyn; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, children Chris Geolat and Michael Steingrubey, brother Donald Steingrubey, and grandson Adam Steingrubey.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. June 13, at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home, Red Bud.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. June 14, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Red Bud, Msgr. Dennis Schaefer officiating.

Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Red Bud.
