The Waterloo Fire Department responded along with EMS and police to two separate possible anhydrous ammonia leaks reported shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday. The first anhydrous call was reported in the 400 block of East Fourth Street near Sandalwood Drive after a resident reported a strong odor.

Waterloo Fire Chief Aaron Shive said it was determined to be a farmer spreading anhydrous ammonia in a nearby field.

The other call was in the area of MM Road at Kaskaskia Road with a subject reported down on the ground near an anhydrous tank. The Red Bud Fire Department arrived to the MM Road call first and took the lead for that incident. It was later determined the man was not injured due to a leak but from farm machinery. He received medical treatment at the scene.
