Local hockey teams heating up the ice
The Freeburg-Waterloo Raging Bulldogs and Columbia Ice Eagles are both off to hot starts in early MVCHA hockey action.
In fact, neither team has lost a game yet this season.
The Raging Bulldogs are 5-0-1 on the season following a 1-1 tie last Tuesday against Collinsville and a 4-3 victory over defending league champion O’Fallon on Thursday.
O’Fallon edged the Raging Bulldogs in three games last season to take the MVCHA crown.
Logan Crowl scored the team’s only goal in the contest against Collinsville.
Jack Lugge, Paul Malacarne, Nick Mumford and Nathan Metz each scored goals in the win over O’Fallon.
The Raging Bulldogs tangled with Triad on Tuesday and will take on Collinsville again this Friday night at the McKendree Rec Plex in O’Fallon.
The Ice Eagles are also 3-0-1 following a 7-5 victory last Tuesday night over O’Fallon and a 4-4 tie with Belleville on Thursday.
Hudson Miller recorded a hat trick for Columbia in the win over O’Fallon. Cameron Nowak added two goals, with Ryan and Sean Hofstetter netting the other scores.
Sean Hofstetter ranks among the league leaders in goals so far this season with seven.
Columbia played Collinsville on Monday (result not available) and will battle Wood River in East Alton on Wednesday night.
