Robert F. Blattner

Robert F. Blattner of Waterloo, formerly of Granite City, died Aug. 15, 2017, in Waterloo with his family by his side.

He was born Jan. 14, 1925, in Waterloo, son of the late John and Anna (nee Weber) Blattner.

He was married to the former Erma Zentgraf; she preceded him in death.

Robert was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of the Waterloo American Legion Post 747, a member of the American Legion and an officer in the U.S. Navy in World WAR II. He was a retired teacher having taught school locally in Granite City and Venice for 33 years.

He is survived by his children, Robert (Kathy) Blattner Jr., Barbara (Jon) Sloan, Dr. John (Kathy) Blattner, and Paul (Jahnne Kae) Blattner; grandchildren Shawn Ard, Brooke Blattner, Ryan (Lauren) Ard, Lisa (Chris) Uribe, Angela Blattner, Michael Blattner, Ashley (Trey) Burris, Sarah (Mike) Utz and John Blattner Jr.; great-grandchildren Allyson, Claire and Macy Ard, Carson Uribe, Lily Burris, and Hank and Colt Utz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Matt, John and Joe Blattner, and sisters Barbara Robb, Anna Kattenbraker and Elizabeth Sagartz.

There will be no visitation.

There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Aug. 26, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waterloo.

A graveside burial will be private.

As an expression of sympathy the family prefers memorial contributions to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waterloo.
