Waterloo police and fire department personnel responded along with Monroe County EMS to a four-vehicle crash with injuries on Route 3 at Park Street about 3:20 p.m. Thursday.

A dump truck driven by Darren Ralston, 51, of East Alton, was traveling southbound on Route 3 when it collided into a Chevy Tahoe driven by Ryan Costello, 35, of Waterloo. The dump truck then collided with a Toyota Camry driven by Kathy Plant, 56, of Du Quoin, which was then also struck by the Tahoe. The Tahoe then spun around and hit a Chevy Cobalt driven by Teri Hartmann, 20, of Prairie du Rocher. Both the Tahoe and the Cobalt were stopped at the light, police said.

Police said that Ralston had bent over to pick up his soda prior to colliding with the Tahoe.

Plant and her passenger were transported to a St. Louis area hospital for minor injuries. Costello was also transported to a hospital for minor injuries. No citations have been issued as of yet, but the crash remains under investigation.
