What’s new at 11 South?
While the towering 11 South medical complex atop Sand Bank Road in Columbia continues to draw the admiration of passersby, developments also continue to take shape inside its facilities.
Developer Joe Koppeis shared updates on 11 South with the Columbia Chamber of Commerce during a luncheon held inside the complex last Wednesday.
“It seems like it’s been forever, but it’s finally coming together,” he said of construction.
Some items he announced are just dreams at this point —such as adding a women’s health clinic — while others include the adding on of features at ATI Physical Therapy. Koppeis told the chamber that ATI originally planned to open in January but additions such as a hydrotherapy pool have pushed the date to mid-April.
11 South ownership partner Fred Shinn of ATI told the Republic-Times that his facility will occupy some 7,000 square feet next door to Gateway Urgent Care on the first floor of the complex.
In addition to physical therapy for injuries, joint and muscle issues, ATI will provide a fully equipped exercise and training facility that will be available for members to use 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Koppeis indicated that space in the complex is currently 80 percent leased. The remaining space on the third floor can be leased as one larger space or as two smaller-sized suites, while available space on the fourth floor can be transformed into one large suite or as many as five smaller suites. The fifth floor includes space for five single offices.
Koppeis said his company, Admiral Parkway Inc., plans to fill one of the professional offices on the fifth floor. A fifth floor room with a view north of the building will serve as both an event space and training room.
“Some of the physicians in the building are using the (event space) to train their staff and also to bring in others from around the country to hold seminars, et cetera,” Lorrie Maag of Admiral Parkway offered as an example of its use.
Weddings, family events and social gatherings can also be booked for that space. A balcony that will soon circle around the entire building is accessible from the room.
On the second floor, Proving Ground Café will hopefully open this week, Koppeis said. The St. Louis-based Aim Labs opened on the second floor in January for lab testing.
Cindy Pogue of Aim Labs said the office will work with medical practitioners to offer drug testing, workman’s comp and toxicology screening for pain management, among other features. Aim Labs offers special services for those who are out-of-network or don’t have health care, she said.
Aim Labs also allows businesses to contact the office regarding health fairs, in which employees can receive free lipid panels, a complete metabolic panel and other tests.
For more information, contact Aim Labs at 281-3337 or visit aimlaboratories.com. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Plans for the fourth floor include an ear, nose, throat practice and a pediatrician. ENT & Sleep Medicine Associates of Shiloh plans to open a satellite office in 11 South, though the office could not be reached for comment.
The practice currently offers sinus, hearing and sleep care, pediatric services and more. Contact the Shiloh office at 618-628-0715 or visit entandsleep.com for more information.
St. Clair Pediatrics plans to move in at the end of this month. Out of its Swansea location, services are newborn care, sports physicals, sick visits and other types of care. The office can be reached at 618-624-9970 or mydocs@stclairpediatrics.com. For more information, visit stclairpediatrics.com.
Koppeis also spoke about additions to be included in the development that 11 South is a part of. A specialty hospital is in the early stages of the process as Koppeis continues talks with St. Louis-area hospitals to entice them to add a location in Columbia. The hospital would include overnight stays for orthopedics and general surgery, ownership partner Dr. Michael Kirk said.
“I’ve applied for a franchise to put a restaurant in myself,” Koppeis added. “We’re working on pursuing that.”
