The Republic-Times Athlete of the Week is Valmeyer High School basketball player Michael Chism.

The junior is averaging 16 points and 11 rebounds per game so far this season for the Pirates (4-4), including 22 points and 15 rebounds against Lebanon on Dec. 6 and 18 points and 11 rebounds against New Athens on Friday, both wins. (Alan Dooley photo)
