Incidents reported during Friday storm
A strong thunderstorm barreled through Monroe County shortly after noon Friday, bringing heavy rain and lightning.
The Waterloo Fire Department responded about 12:25 p.m. to a house struck by lightning at 309 Betty Drive. There was no visible smoke upon firefighter arrival, and the occupants of the home were safe and without injury. There is a hole in the roof where the lightning exited following the strike, the homeowner reported.
At 12:30 p.m., the Maeystown and Valmeyer fire departments, Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and EMS personnel responded to the area of 3043 Bluff Road near Ivy Road, after a box truck struck a utility pole, resulting in a fire. There was no immediate word on injuries in the crash. Monroe County Electric Cooperative was also dispatched to the crash scene.
At 2:20 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash in the area of 900 Gall Road. The four-door sedan came to rest in the ditch. Injuries were believed to be minor.
