Mary Helen Masterson | Obituary
Mary Helen Masterson, 87, of Red Bud, formerly of Glen Carbon, died Sept. 30, 2016, at 9:45 p.m., at Red Bud Regional Care, Red Bud.
She was born July 4, 1929, in Prairie du Rocher, daughter of the late Edgar and Augusta Nevois (nee Blow).
She married Edward Leo Masterson on April 14, 1951, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairie du Rocher; he preceded her in death Jan. 7, 2002.
Mary Helen was a wonderful homemaker and was well known for her delicious desserts. For many years, she enjoyed quilting for St. Cecelia Parish in Glen Carbon.
She was also active in that community’s senior citizen organization and volunteered to help prepare funeral meals.
She was a devoted member of St. Cecilia Parish until re-locating to Red Bud in 2013.
Survivors include her children Lorraine (Ron) Hamberg of Carbondale, Mary Ann (Jeff) Myers of Belvidere, Allan (Peg) Masterson of Red Bud, Dennis (Becky) Masterson of Galatia, and Gerald (Diane) Masterson of Highland; sisters Irene Haithcock of DeBary, Fla., and Mabel Whelan of Waterloo; brother-in-law Owen Masterson of O’Fallon; sisters-in-law Helen Schumm of Altamont, Mo., and Evie Lee of St. Louis, Mo.; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings Elmer “Bud” Nevois, William Nevois, James Nevois, Virginia Reinhold and Robert Nevois, as well as many other beloved relatives and friends.
Visitation is Oct. 5, from 4–8 p.m., and Oct. 6, from 9–10:45 a.m., at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home.
A funeral mass will be Oct. 6, at 11 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Red Bud, Msgr. Dennis Schaefer officiating.
Interment will follow at St. John Catholic Cemetery, Red Bud.
