Crash on Old State Route 3

Columbia police, fire and EMS responded at about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday to a two-vehicle crash on Old State Route 3 near George Weber Chevrolet.

A green 1996 Toyota Corolla driven by a 16-year-old female from Columbia collided into the back of a gold 2001 Saturn driven by Courtney Schlemmer, 28, of Waterloo.  The Saturn had stopped on Old State Route 3 as the vehicle in front of her was stopped waiting to turn left when the Toyota struck the Saturn in the rear.

The 16-year-old was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. The front seat passenger in the Saturn, Tonya Cowan, 54, of East Carondelet, was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
