Rash of motorcycle thefts in Monroe County

The Columbia Police Department and Monroe County Sheriff’s Department are investigating a rash of motorcycle thefts reported in the area over the past few days.

On Saturday morning, officers investigated the theft of a motorcycle from a locked shed in the 100 block of West Oak Street in Columbia.

“It is believed the motorcycle was taken during the evening hours of the previous day,” Acting Columbia Police Chief Jerry Paul said.

On Wednesday morning, police investigated the theft of another motorcycle from the apartment complex parking lot in the 2600 block of Columbia Lakes Drive. The owner last saw the motorcycle around 9 p.m. the previous night.

Also on Wednesday, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office investigated the theft of a motorcycle from the 7000 block of D Road.

Paul said the CPD believed these three thefts may be related. Police are seeking the public’s assistance in solving these crimes.

“If you have any information to provide on the three occurrences listed above, we ask that you please contact the police department at 281-5151,” Paul said. “If you witness suspicious activity in the proximity of a detached shed or any questionable incidents involving motorcycles, please call and report the activity immediately.”
