Sharing Cupboard cooks up ideas for practical living

It takes an ounce of courage, a pinch of creativity and a spoonful of camaraderie for people to come together and learn about frugal and healthy cooking.

The Monroe County House of Neighborly Service found a way to whip those ingredients together into a successful event known as the Sharing Cupboard.

Additionally, the HNS food security committee hosted the first Sharing Cupboard class — which helps those who access food pantries create cost-effective, healthy and delicious recipes — last Monday at The Beacon. HNS vice president Kelly Lerch is chairperson of the food security committee.

“HNS is grateful to the First Baptist Church of Waterloo, which is a member of HNS, for the use of the kitchen at The Beacon,” HNS executive director Thelma Burgonio-Watson said.

The primary goal of the class is to introduce a way to help with food security and adequate food distribution, so people who access food pantries can create meals that are not only healthy but also enjoyable…>>>
