Richard D. “Fish” Fisher | Obituary
Richard D. “Fish” Fisher, 71, of Waterloo, died April 7, 2016, in St. Louis.
He was born Aug. 18, 1944, in St. Louis, son of the late Edward and Vera Fisher (nee Meyer).
Fish will long be remembered for his support of Monroe County sports, especially baseball and softball. Fish coached many women’s and men’s adult softball teams through the years, as well as American Legion baseball and Mon-Clair League baseball. Fish possessed a wealth of knowledge on the history of regional sports. In 2013, he was inducted into the Mon-Clair Baseball Hall of Fame.
Rich was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime VFW member.
Fish was also a Paul Harris recipient from the Waterloo Rotary and served on the Waterloo High School Hall of Fame Committee.
He is survived by his brothers Ed (Linda) Fisher and Oliver Blase; sister Dori Blase; special friend John (Rhonda) Maurer; nephew Bill O’Daniel; great-nephew Will O’Daniel; uncle Willis “Butch” (Francis) Meyer; aunts Irene Diercks, Rose Banks and Florence Meyer; and special cousins Steve Fleming and Geri Fleming-Meyer.
He is preceded in death by his parents and special aunt and uncle Edgar and Velma Meyer.
Visitation is April 11, from 4 to 8 p.m., and April 12, from 8 to 10 a.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home, Waterloo.
Funeral services will be April 12, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home, Pastor Matt Friz officiating.
Interment will follow at Waterloo Cemetery, Waterloo.
As an expression of sympathy the family prefers memorial contributions to the Gibault baseball club or the Waterloo High School baseball club.
