The Waterloo and Columbia girls soccer squads renewed their cross-county high school rivalry with a match on Monday night at Waterloo High School.

The two squads battled to a scoreless tie, however, so neither team has bragging rights for the time being. Strong defense and stellar goalkeeping reigned supreme for both the Bulldogs and Eagles on this night.

The Bulldogs are 2-2-1 on the spring.

Last Tuesday, the team posted an 8-0 win against Civic Memorial. Sydney Luedeman and Sydney Bockhorn each scored two goals for the ‘Dogs; Erika Lloyd scored one goal and added three assists.

Sophomore Bailey Bosler has been seeing a bulk of the minutes in net for the Bulldogs, who haven’t allowed a goal over the past two games.

Waterloo hosts Highland in a Mississippi Valley Conference tilt on Thursday night. The Bulldogs will play cross-town rival Gibault at Oerter Park in Columbia this Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

The Eagles are 3-2-1 on the spring, posting an impressive 2-1 victory over Notre Dame on Thursday.

Fae Harrell and Chloe Graff scored the goals for Columbia. Harrell also has three assists so far on the spring.

Columbia was dealt a big blow, however, with the loss of  sophomore midfielder Taylor Kaempfe for the season with an ACL injury. She had scored a goal with an assist this season.

Allison Riddle has performed well in net for the Eagles.

The Eagles will play at Summit on Thursday night before doing battle with Holt at Lou Fusz Soccer Park in Creve Coeur, Mo., on Saturday morning.

Gibault is 2-3 on the season with a 4-1 loss to Collinsville last Wednesday night followed by a 5-0 loss to Belleville West on Monday.

The Hawks are playing much larger schools in the early going to be battle tested for a long playoff push in May.

Abby Hasenstab scored the lone goal for the Hawks against Collinsville, as she and fellow seniors Maddie O’Neill and Carley Olson have performed well in the early going.

The upcoming schedule continues to be tough on the Hawks, who play at Edwardsville on Thursday and host Waterloo on Saturday morning.

Gibault then hosts St. Pius at Oerter Park in Columbia on Monday.
