A Nebraska man was taken into custody following an alleged road rage incident that occurred early Sunday morning in Monroe County.

Michael D. Davis, 28, of Cortland, Neb., now faces local charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding police and unlawful possession of stolen registration. Police were initially contacted about a road rage incident on Bluff Road near HH Road in which Davis was the alleged aggressor. Driving a red Jeep Cherokee, Davis fled a traffic stop on Route 3 near Waterloo.

“A short time after the traffic stop Davis fled the scene from deputies and attempted to ram sheriff’s deputies patrol cars on several occasions,” Monroe County Sheriff Neal Rohlfing said.

An Illinois State Police all points bulletin alert was issued on the vehicle, and a Monroe County Sheriff’s Department deputy stopped the Jeep at Select Fuel off Route 3 near Ames Road, after which Davis was taken into custody.

The plates on the Jeep driven by Davis came back as stolen, police said Monday, and the MCSD is investigating the possibility of the vehicle being stolen.

Davis remains in custody at the Monroe County Jail in Waterloo. Felony charges will be filed against Davis on Tuesday.
