Kaskaskia Trail Chorus brings harmony through gift of song

A fixture on the area music scene, the Kaskaskia Trail Chorus has provided cheer through song for more than 50 years.

The barbershoppers are busy preparing for their annual show at Turner Hall in Columbia on Saturday, Nov. 14.

Longtime member Glen Lutz said the chorus actually formed in 1963, affiliating with the Barbershop Harmony Society of Nashville, Tenn., in 1965.  So that’s when the group’s official history started.

That society, comprised of some 25,000 singers, ties the barbershop singing genre together nationwide.

When the Kaskaskia Trail Chorus first started, members gathered in Homer Hergenroeder’s bar to rehearse. Today, they tune up and sing out every Thursday night at the Capitol Theatre in Waterloo…>>>
