Man charged in Renault child death
A 24-year-old man was issued a notice to appear in court on a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child in connection with the March 17 death of a 2-year-old Renault boy inside his home.
Ryan A. Miller, 24, who currently resides in Marble Hill, Mo., was charged on Sept. 8. He is scheduled to appear at the Monroe County Courthouse in Waterloo on Oct. 21.
The Monroe County coroner’s office determined the death of 27-month-old Jase C. Tojo to be accidental, indicating the cause of death to be asphyxiation with contributing factors of respiratory complications, co-sleeping and bedding material.
Those present inside the Renault home at the time police arrived late in the morning on March 17 included the boy’s mother, Sydney Tojo, a younger baby, and Miller — who was Sydney’s boyfriend but not Jase’s father.
Miller admitted to drinking the night before young Jase was found unresponsive, police said.
